Day 10, A species divided:
The Rufous-Sided Towhee
In
the olden rufous time
there
was no Spotted or Eastern
no
us and them
then
as now
foraging
was hard, consuming
two-footed
backward-hopping work
so when
it was time
the
cry arose
drink
your tea!
and
across the land
bands
of merry songsters echoed
drink
your tea!
then
the great divide
sheets
of ice advancing
sundering
family ties
red
eyes from white
birds
of a feather no more
no
withstanding this cold war
