Day 7, Still Life
of the Least Bittern
As you approach
I don’t move
so you can’t see me
The nest is near
safety is there
home is at hand
but I don’t move
so you can’t see me
You bend
cock your head
great towering bird
I don’t move
so you can’t see me
You reach out your funny
flesh-covered claw
toward where I stand still
I don’t move
and you can’t see me
I remain in the clutch
of your wide-eyed grip
frozen, unflappable
you can’t see me
if I don’t move
