Day 8, Bald Eagle:
Go bald or go home
Ya big galoot
thug of dump and dam
drawn to the easy pickings
the scutter of rats and railroads
preening for the wildlife cam
you throw your weight around
with the goldens and the red-tails
worry the fish from an osprey’s grasp
but turn tail like any bully
when a pesky speck of sparrow
darts and dives and drives you off
you fall in love, once
hard and fast and literally
climb to the top of the sky
with your intended
swearing forever
in a death grip you tumble
bald heads
over talons intertwined
at the last
reason or instinct prevails
but the mortal point is taken:
live together, die alone
Hey, that's our nation's bird you're calling a thug. I particularly like this one.
ReplyDeleteLou likes this one too. I love bald eagles, the big galoots!
