Day 19, Pine
Siskin Pantoum
A taste for salt draws them to the road;
as cars rush in, they scatter to the trees.
To call the flock, a solitary note:
in an instant, hundreds twitter on the breeze.
As cars rush in, they scatter to the trees.
They build their nests in the tallest evergreen.
In an instant, hundreds twitter on the breeze,
gregarious by nature, indeed.
They build their nests in the tallest evergreen,
peck out seeds from thistles and cones.
Gregarious by nature, indeed,
you’ll see a thousand before you see one
peck out seeds from thistles and cones
though they have a strange liking for mineral.
You’ll see a thousand before you see one
from a thousand issues one call.
They have a strange liking for mineral,
a taste for salt draws them to the road.
From a thousand issues one call
to call the flock, a solitary note.
